- Verdict: Keep — your data — Your data. Shrink it from its app; don’t delete the folder.
- Comes back on its own: no
- From the app: Finder: right-click files or folders > Remove Download (or the provider's 'Make online-only').

## What is it?

`~/Library/CloudStorage` holds one folder per cloud provider that uses macOS’s File Provider system, such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and Box. Files can be online-only placeholders or downloaded copies; only downloaded ones take space.

## What happens if you delete it?

Deleting files here deletes them from the cloud and your other devices. Freeing the local copy keeps them online, and they download again when opened.

## How to remove it properly

Never delete these folders. In Finder, right-click files or folders and choose Remove Download, or the provider’s own Make online-only or Free up space command. Most providers also have a setting to keep new files online-only, such as Google Drive’s streaming mode.

## Before you delete it

Files that have not finished uploading cannot be freed: check the sync status icons first.
