## What is it?

uv, the Python package and project manager, keeps downloaded and built packages, Git dependencies and other data in a shared cache, `~/.cache/uv` on macOS. On macOS it clones files from the cache into virtual environments, so the space is partly shared with your environments. It grows quickly with large packages.

## What happens if you delete it?

uv downloads and builds packages again the next time a project or environment needs them. Existing virtual environments keep working.

## How to remove it properly

Run `uv cache clean` in Terminal, uv’s own command, which empties the cache permanently; `uv cache prune` removes only unused entries, and `uv cache dir` shows the location.
