## What is it?

uv downloads standalone Python builds when a project or command asks for a version you do not have, and keeps them in `~/.local/share/uv/python`, one folder per version and platform. Older patch releases stay installed until you remove them.

## What happens if you delete it?

uv downloads a removed version again the next time a project requests it. Virtual environments created with that interpreter stop working until you recreate them, for example with `uv sync` or `uv venv`.

## How to remove it properly

Run `uv python list --only-installed` to see what is installed, then `uv python uninstall <version>` for each version you no longer need. This is uv’s own command and deletes permanently.

## Before you delete it

Check `.python-version` files and `requires-python` in your projects before removing a version they rely on.
