## What is it?

VMware Fusion keeps each virtual machine as a `.vmwarevm` package in `~/Virtual Machines.localized` (shown as Virtual Machines in Finder). It holds the virtual disks, snapshots and settings of a complete guest system with your files. Typically 20–150 GB each.

## What happens if you delete it?

No. Deleting a VM loses its operating system, apps and files.

## How to remove it properly

Remove VMs you no longer need from the Virtual Machine Library (right-click › Delete). For VMs you keep, delete old snapshots and use Fusion’s disk clean-up option in the VM’s settings, or move the shut-down package to an external drive.

## Before you delete it

Shut the VM down before moving it, and copy out any documents you need.
