The short answer

Usually, after a check. Might hold something you care about. Look inside before removing it.

What is it?

Google’s Gemini CLI keeps per-project working data in ~/.gemini/tmp, one folder per project: saved chats, checkpoints used to undo file changes, and logs. These folders grow with long sessions.

Per-project chat checkpoints and logs. Recent ones are never touched; deleted ones cannot be resumed.

What happens if you delete it?

No. Deleted chats and checkpoints cannot be resumed or restored. Your settings in ~/.gemini/settings.json and your project files are not affected.

How to remove it properly

Quit Gemini CLI, then move the project folders you no longer need to the Trash in Finder (Go › Go to Folder… ~/.gemini/tmp).

Quit the app that uses it, then move it to the Trash. Empty the Trash when you’re sure.

Before you delete it

Checkpoints let you roll back changes Gemini made; keep them for projects you are actively working on.

How MoreRoom helps

MoreRoom recognises this item and labels it “Review first”: it shows what’s inside, its size and last use, so you can decide. Nothing is removed without your say, and everything goes to the Trash first, with Undo.
