The short answer

Yes. Rebuilt or re-downloaded automatically when needed.

What is it?

Godot 4 stores imported versions of a project’s assets and editor state in a .godot folder next to project.godot. It is generated, and Godot recommends keeping it out of version control. Only folders in projects untouched for 30 days are considered.

Imported assets and editor state. Godot re-imports everything when the project is opened.

What happens if you delete it?

Godot re-imports every asset when the project is next opened, which can take a while for large projects. Scenes, scripts and assets are not affected.

How to remove it properly

Close the project in Godot, then move its .godot folder to the Trash in Finder.

Quit the app that uses it, then move it to the Trash. Empty the Trash when you’re sure.

  • MoreRoom only suggests items unused for 30 days or more.

Before you delete it

Editor state such as open scenes and some per-project editor settings resets.

How MoreRoom helps

MoreRoom recognises this item, shows its real size and when it was last used, and labels it “Safe to remove”. In the free version you can move it to the Trash in one click, with Undo; Pro collects every safe item at once.
