The short answer
Yes. Rebuilt or re-downloaded automatically when needed.
What is it?
pnpm keeps a single copy of every package version in a content-addressable store, ~/Library/pnpm/store on macOS, and links or clones files from it into each project’s node_modules. Because files are shared that way, the space it appears to use is partly the same space your projects’ node_modules use.
What happens if you delete it?
Packages that are pruned or deleted are downloaded again on the next pnpm install that needs them. Projects keep working as long as their node_modules is intact.
How to remove it properly
Run pnpm store prune in Terminal, which removes only packages no project references any more and deletes them permanently; pnpm store path shows the store’s exact location.
Use the tool’s official command: pnpm store prune
Before you delete it
Deleting the whole store frees less space than its size suggests while projects still share its files, and the next installs must download everything again.
How MoreRoom helps
MoreRoom recognises this item, shows its real size and when it was last used, and labels it “Safe to remove”. In the free version you can move it to the Trash in one click, with Undo; Pro collects every safe item at once.
When the tool is installed, MoreRoom runs its official command for you (pnpm store prune) instead of deleting files — and tells you that this step can’t be undone.
