In short
- Free Up Space, in the sidebar, lists everything MoreRoom recognised in the scan, grouped by tool, largest first, with how much is safe to remove right away.
- Remove items one at a time for free. With Pro, Add All Safe Items fills the Collector with every “Safe to remove” item.
- Goal mode (Pro): choose Goal › Free 10, 25, 50 or 100 GB. MoreRoom picks safe items first, then items to review, never your data, and shows you the list before anything moves.
How to use goal mode
- Scan your Mac On the home screen, click Scan My Mac. Goal mode works best with the whole startup disk.
- Open Free Up Space Click Free Up Space in the sidebar, under Explore.
- Choose a goal Click Goal and choose Free 10 GB, 25 GB, 50 GB or 100 GB.
- Review the selection MoreRoom puts the safest selection in the Collector and opens the review sheet. Take out anything you want to keep with the – button.
- Free the space Click Free Up and the size. Items go to the Trash in one batch, so one Undo (⌘Z) puts them all back. Empty the Trash when you are sure.
The Free Up Space screen
After a scan, click Free Up Space in the sidebar (the number next to it is what can be freed safely). At the top: how much MoreRoom found, and how much of it is safe to remove right away.
Below, one card per kind of item — “iOS simulators”, “npm cache”, “Xcode DerivedData”… — with its safety label, an explanation, its total size and the number of items. Click the arrow to see the items, with their path, last use or last change, and buttons to reveal, remove or collect each one.
If an app is holding deleted files open, a ghost space card appears here too.
The Smart Views in the sidebar show the same thing for one category at a time (Developer, Applications, Caches & Leftovers…).
Add all safe items (Pro)
Add All Safe Items puts every item labelled “Safe to remove” into the Collector. Nothing labelled “Review first” or “Your data” is added. Then click Review & Free Up in the Collector pill, check the list, and click Free Up. The + button on a card adds or removes that whole group.
Goal mode (Pro)
When you need a precise amount of space — for a big download, a macOS update or a project — goal mode builds the selection for you.
Click Goal and choose Free 10 GB, Free 25 GB, Free 50 GB or Free 100 GB. MoreRoom then:
- takes items labelled “Safe to remove”, largest first;
- if that isn’t enough, adds items labelled “Review first”, largest first;
- never includes items labelled “Your data”, items it can’t remove, or items to review that a tool would delete for good;
- stops as soon as the goal is reached, puts the selection in the Collector and opens the review sheet.
Nothing is removed until you click Free Up in the review sheet. If MoreRoom can’t reach the goal, it shows the best selection it found.
The home screen’s macOS update card uses goal mode too, with exactly the space that’s missing.
On the free plan
Free shows everything and lets you remove items one at a time, with the trash button next to each item or the inspector. Add All Safe Items and Goal show the Pro sheet. See Free and Pro.
