In short
- Scans run entirely on your Mac. File names, paths and contents never leave it. No account, no analytics, no tracking.
- MoreRoom only goes online to activate and renew a Pro licence, to download its signed rule updates and to check for new versions.
- A rule update can only describe items; it can never make MoreRoom run something. Commands come from a fixed list built into the app.
What MoreRoom reads
To build the map, MoreRoom reads the names, sizes and dates of files and folders — with Full Disk Access, including the protected ones. It doesn’t read what your documents say. A few features look at file contents, always on your Mac and only to compare or measure them:
- Downloads Cleanup compares files in Downloads to find those downloaded twice;
- Quick Look shows a preview when you ask for one.
What MoreRoom sends — and only this
| When | To | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| You activate Pro, then about once a week | api.moreroom.app |
Your licence key (or the signed licence), an anonymous identifier of the Mac (a hash, not the serial number) and the Mac’s name |
| Once a day | api.moreroom.app |
A request for the latest rule catalogue — nothing about you or your files |
| Once a day (if automatic updates are on) | moreroom.app |
A request for the latest version of the app |
Buying Pro opens Stripe’s checkout in your browser; MoreRoom itself never sees your payment details. Everything else — scanning, rules, Storage Weather history, History of removals — stays on your Mac.
The full details are in our privacy policy.
Signed rules, fixed commands
- The rule catalogue is signed by MoreRoom. A catalogue whose signature doesn’t match the key built into the app is ignored, and MoreRoom keeps the version it has.
- A rule can only describe an item: where it lives, its label, its explanation. When a rule says an item should be removed by its tool, it can only name a command from a fixed list built into the app — such as
xcrun simctl deleteorbrew cleanup. Nothing from a downloaded rule is ever run. - MoreRoom never runs scripts or programs found in your files or in downloaded data. When it wakes up a project, it runs the tool’s standard install command, chosen from the same fixed list.
- App updates are signed too, and checked before they’re installed.
Removing things safely
MoreRoom never removes anything on its own. Every removal is your choice, confirmed, and goes to the Trash first — except the few commands marked Permanent, which say so before they run. See Remove items safely.
What MoreRoom keeps on your Mac
Its own data stays in your user account: the removal history and Storage Weather history (in ~/Library/Application Support/MoreRoom), your settings, a small summary shared with the widget, and the Pro activation in your Keychain. Remove MoreRoom completely lists every file.
